![]() ![]() It's just one Pokemon bigger than Alola's, but the variety for the foreign Pokemon is relatively even for each non-Unova region, and even though Kalos was biased towards Kanto as well, it didn't completely fucking neglect the other four foreign regions. In terms of numbers and regional balance, B2W2 really hit the mark. If you're going to split a region into different segments, I wouldn't recommend pulling a Kalos and make Pokemon exclusive to the areas that correspond to their Pokedex segment or doing an Alola and skew the encounter rates to be mostly commonplace shitmons while the rare ones have arbitrary encounter rates and can only be found in one area. ![]() It's definitely a must to have a balance of types, even if there is a slight bias to fit the nature of a region - take note of how DP Sinnoh fucked up with Fire-types despite having an E4 member that specialised in them. How would you go about balanced for Pokemon stats and move distribution? What about egg groups and egg moves? Think about what you missed when playing a Pokemon game and wish Gamefreak had thought of when designing it.Ĭlearly there are way more factors taken into account when designing a regional Pokedex, but these three factors should be enough to start the discussion! The process should definitely be more than choosing a bunch of your favourites and putting them together in a list. Do you try and include equal numbers from each generation, or would you favour Gen 1 some generations more than others? Another major factor is type distribution is it better to have approximately equal amounts of each type, or will some always be more common (normal, water) and others more rare (dragon, ghost)? Other things to think about are evolution methods, number of single-stage / two-stage / three-stage evolutions, or the actual designs themselves.īalance: Now you can have a reasonably sized Pokedex with a fair amount of diversity, but that doesn't always make for a balanced gameplay experience. Do you make a throwback dex with just 150/151 Pokemon? Or do you make one with 450 Pokemon like Kalos? Would you split your regional Pokedex up into smaller parts like Alola does, but have some overlap between each?ĭiversity: There are a number of ways to make your regional Pokedex diverse. Size: With over 802 Pokemon now available, size can be a tricky thing to get right. ![]() Have you ever wanted to create your own regional Pokedex? Or have you been playing a main series game and though this Pokedex really likes variety? There are many aspects that go into making a regional dex, and I would like to know how you would make a balanced, diverse Pokedex for a new region.
